Kunia Camp (also called Kunia) is an unincorporated community on the island of Oahu in Honolulu County, Hawaii, United States. It lies along Hawaii Route 750 northwest of downtown Honolulu, the county seat of Honolulu County.[1] Its elevation is 883 feet (269 m).[2] It has a post office (under the name of Kunia), with the ZIP code of 96759.[3]
Government and infrastructure[edit]
The community was a plantation village for a Del Montepineapple plantation. The plantation closed in 2006; two years later, the community's land was given to the Hawaii Agriculture Research Center, allowing its residents to keep their leases.[4] The community was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.[5]
In March 2019, the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) approved 174 Power Global to build a 52 megawatt with 208 megawatt-hour storage solar farm plus battery storage project on a 352-acre site owned by Robinson Kunia Land LLC at Kunia called Hoʻohana Solar 1. HECO will buy electricity from this solar-plus-storage project at 10 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).[6][7] According to PUC filings, FCHQC Development, a joint venture between Forest City Sustainable Resources and 174 Power Group, owns 174 Power Group and has Larry Greene as the project manager of Hoʻohana Solar 1.[6] As of March, 2019, this project is in prime agricultural zone A land, does not have a permit for construction, and faces stiff opposition from the Hawaii Farm Bureau, the Hawaii Sierra Club, the state of Hawaii's Office of Planning, and the Hawaii State's Department of Agriculture.[6][7] Dean Okimoto and Richard Ha, two farmers who recently stopped their crop operations, said that better partnerships with farmers will allow farmers to cohabit the land so that farming melded with renewable-energy projects can boost the agricultural land's financial sustainability.[6]

AT&T
Very poor coverage in Royal Kunia area. Signal strength ranges any where from no bar to only one bar. Text message has to be sent multiple times.

You have to hate your-self to get T-Mobile. Reception always sucks and get worse when you enter a building. In Kunia, I get poor reception and if its cloudy, it as if the signal drops. T-Mobile was good several years ago when AT&T was in a partnership. The number of T-Mobile towers are far less when compared with AT&T and Verizon. At UH Manoa, AT&T and Verizon have a tower on campus which is a real plus. Sadly, T-Mobile is the less expensive out of the 4 major cell phone service providers. Warning: On Kauai there is no T-mobile. You will roam on AT&T network for free but you can not use your unlimited data for more than 5 e-mails.

T-Mobile
Cannot get good reception in home. If used on second floor receotion improves but is still spotty. Must go out of development to get good coverage.

I've tried about every single carrier except AT&T. And as of right now I am with T-mobile. Verizon and Sprint wasn't working for me. T-Mobile by far I would say isn't GREAT but it's good. I have like 3 bars from home everyday. No dropped calls from my new blackberry curve... but with my sidekick 08' I could never keep a conversation going.

This area is in a low area such that the signal goes over the houses. No reception / weak reception on ground floor, reception is slightly better on 2nd floor.

T-Mobile
No reception a the top of the loop. Marginal reception if you are in direct line of sight of the single tower located near H-1 (Tower is near Kunia off ramp so good signal coming up Kunia Rd.until you turn off at Anonui Rd. Reception picks up again going up Anoiki and then drops when you get into Kalulu Loop.) Sprint and Cingular have spotty 2 or 3 bar reception in this area.

My husband and I signed up with AT&T when we moved to Waipahu thinking we'd try to do without a landline. Boy was that a mistake! Reception is terrible and lots of dropped calls. We can't use the cell phone at all at home, only get decent reception in town. AT&T said they're putting up new towers, but after reading the comments here I don't know whether to believe it. Wish we'd gone with verizon.

We get GREAT coverage with Verizon on Oahu. My calls don't drop, voices don't cut in and out, and I get a signal inside most buildings. Inside some mega size retail stores the signal is weak. The only place I found the coverage to be sketchywas on vacation on the Big Island. It got no signal inside the Volcanos national park or along some of the more remote areas on the highway. I don't think there are any towers for any company inside the national park. In all the towns I had coverage.

We gave our phones back to AT&T within the first 30 days and said no thanks! We couldn't get reception in our house, on H1, or on Hickam. So many dropped calls or broken up voices. Very frustrating! We could have 4 bars showing, make a call and not move an inch, and the call would drop or it would lose all bars. We now have Verizon and get very good coverage and calls don't drop! Only place I really don't get a signal is inside Lowes at Waikele.

I have been putting up with poor reception and dropped calls in my home for 2 years now. I have stuck with T-Mobile this long since reception on the mainland (I travel a lot) has been excellent. I keep waiting for T-Mobile to upgrade their system here, but I am getting tired of the dropped calls in my home, and will be changing carriers soon.
